HydRegen
HydRegen is an Oxford-based biotechnology company spun out from the University of Oxford that develops sustainable chemical manufacturing technologies. It uses proprietary enzyme-based systems powered by hydrogen to replace toxic heavy-metal catalysts, cutting energy use, waste and costs in chemical and pharmaceutical production. Its bio-based catalysts can integrate into existing infrastructure to improve safety, reduce carbon emissions and enable greener, more efficient processes across industrial chemical synthesis.
IBERS, Aberystwyth University
IBERS, at Aberystwyth University, is an internationally recognised BBSRC research institute that addresses global challenges including food security, sustainability, bioenergy, the circular economy and the impacts of climate change. IBERS’ scientists conduct research from molecule to landscape scales. Our core expertise lies in crop science and plant breeding, providing feedstock for a range of applications, and in the development and optimisation of biotech processes.
IBERS hosts the Beacon Biorefining Centre, a pilot-scale biorefining facility with experienced staff who interact with industry to develop new or improve on existing bio-based products and processes. This facility offers pre-treatment, fermentation, and downstream processing capabilities to a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 5. This combination of academic excellence and industrial engagement positions IBERS as a key contributor to the UK bioeconomy.
iBOXiT
iBoxit is a pioneering UK-based agri-tech company developing 100% biodegradable and reusable packaging made from second-life agricultural waste. Founded in 2018 at the Norwich Research Park, iBoxit creates innovative alternatives to materials like expanded polystyrene, including insulated produce boxes and pallet systems. Their products not only match but often exceed conventional performance in insulation, strength, and logistics compatibility, while dramatically reducing environmental impact. By transforming waste into high-performance, compostable materials that return to the soil as organic fertiliser, iBoxit demonstrates a circular, carbon-negative approach to packaging — delivering sustainable innovation that supports both industry efficiency and planetary health.
IMPACT SOLUTIONS
Impact Solutions is a UKAS and ISO 17025 accredited test laboratory and innovation centre based in Livingston, central Scotland. Founded in 2002, the company specialises in technical testing and product development for plastics, packaging, and industrial materials. With a dynamic team of experts, Impact Solutions supports global clients in solving engineering challenges, validating product performance, and accelerating sustainable innovation. Their state-of-the-art facilities and agile approach enable rapid, customer-focused solutions across sectors. As a privately held SME, they also host cutting-edge R&D projects, including innovation in biodegradability testing, and actively contribute to shaping industry standards and environmental best practices.

INGEVITY is a leading provider of specialty chemicals, high-performance carbon materials and engineered polymers. These products are used in a variety of demanding applications, including asphalt paving, oil exploration and production, agrochemicals, adhesives, lubricants, publication inks, coatings, elastomers, bioplastics and automotive components that reduce gasoline vapor emissions.
KCC PACKAGING
KCC PACKAGING As an experienced food packaging specialist, for the last 15 years KCC has focused on sustainable solutions, and has become ‘a company of our time’, with all its products made either from low-carbon, recyclable materials or compostable plant sources. Its riji® product is currently its most notable innovation. riji ® packaging provides a compostable, natural alternative to CPet that cannot be recycled in the ready meal and food-to-go industries. Its uniqueness is the application of a natural barrier coating, which renders the natural fibre base non-porous, and thus suitable for foods with a high moisture content, such as curries and lasagnes. riji ® also performs better than CPet in both microwave and traditional ovens, remaining rigid at higher temperatures. The product carries a food migration certificate to 240C.
KEANE SCIENTIFIC CONSULTING
KEANE SCIENTIFIC CONSULTING specialises in providing innovation management solutions and leadership experience to support chemical and polymer-based businesses to develop their R&D capabilities from ideation and scouting to product launch. KSC is led by Dr Norman Keane whose technical expertise covers thermoplastics, polyurethanes, and rubber and latex products. More recently, Norman has focused on the development of bioplastics, and the transition of the chemical industry towards renewable and sustainable sources of carbon. He is a visiting researcher at Strathclyde University and has been a contributor to the forthcoming Royal Society briefing on the transition to green sources of carbon entitled ‘Catalysing change: Defossilising the chemical industry’.
KELPI
KELPI is a leader in sustainable biomaterials. The company has developed a unique biopolymer from seaweed which can be applied as a coating to substrates such as paper, card and fibre. The resulting packaging is recyclable, compostable and marine-safe. Kelpi, a certified B Corp, is focused on meeting the needs of large businesses in the food & drink and cosmetics & personal care sectors. They’re already working with some of the largest companies in the world to scale up production of their biodegradable coatings and deliver unique, next generation packaging solutions.
LEADERGRAIN
LEADERGRAIN has been working in the international grain market since 2013 and now is also a world-leading biopolymers supplier and innovator with products of naturally advanced materials made from renewable, abundant feedstocks with performance and economics that compete with oil-based intermediates, plastics, and fibers. Our goal is to make economically competitive and scalable chemicals and materials that are produced based on renewable feedstocks, fully recyclable, with a significantly lower carbon footprint, and with superior performance to the petroleum-based alternatives.
