We hope you’ve all had a lovely break over the Christmas holidays and New Year – meanwhile the bioeconomy has remained busy! The plans for a European Green Deal have been unveiled, promising to develop a regulatory framework for biodegradable and biobased plastics, among other initiatives. It also includes a legally binding target of reducing EU emissions to net zero by 2050, a big step in the right direction. As we move into a new decade with a newly elected government in the UK, we hope to see the bioeconomy receive ample support here too. Plastic and packaging have been key topics for the bioeconomy of late, with multiple drivers for biobased and biodegradable replacements for the industry.
