New legislation approved by the Government of California privileges the use of compostable materials, essentially prohibiting the use of plastic bags – unless they are compostable – for many applications (fruit and vegetable bags, etc). California has already tightened the law on the use of terminology, outlawing the use of “biodegradable” for plastics unless they meet the compostable standard which in the USA is the ASTMD 6400.
