The UK has the opportunity to develop a domestic bio-plastics industry able to support 35,000 jobs, produce £1 billion in gross employment compensation and generate £2 billion of gross value added to the economy, according to a report published by the Centre for Economics & Business Research (CEBR).

CEBR’S analysis, reported to be the first of its kind in the country and presented to the House of Lords by the Bio-based and Biodegradable Industries Association (BBIA), shows that for the UK to fully capitalise on the industry’s potential, a supportive technological, legislative and commercial environment should be in place.
