BBIA member Biome Bioplastics has received an order worth $550,000 from a client in the US packaging market for its compostable coffee pods.
Biome produces heat-resistant, industrially biodegradable food-contact approved bio resins, including the BiomeHTX, which is fibre-reinforced and can produce strong injection-moulded parts.
The new resin holds its shape when exposed to hot water and will biodegrade in industrial composting conditions in less than three months.
Biome began commercialising its compostable bioplastic for coffee pods in 2019, with the material developed at the company’s R&D division in Southampton, UK. It is now being manufactured in the US.
The US order is the largest single order received by Biome today. Deliveries are expected to be completed in the next two months.
