BBIA Ambassadors

Our BBIA Ambassadors are champions for bio-based and biodegradable materials, helping to drive our mission forward. Our Ambassadors raise awareness, support BBIA campaigns and events, and share their expertise through thought leadership – whether through insights, commentary, or participation in panels and webinars. They also help connect industry, policymakers, and the wider sustainability community, providing valuable perspectives that shape the future of sustainable innovation.

Professor Stephen Wallace, University of Edinburgh

He holds degrees from Edinburgh and Oxford, and has held research fellowships at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Harvard, MIT, and Cambridge, as well as a visiting faculty position at Caltech.

His research focusses on reprogramming microbial metabolism to produce sustainable chemicals from renewable feedstocks and waste.

He received the Colworth Medal from the Biochemical Society and the Norman Heatley Medal from the Royal Society of Chemistry for his contributions to sustainable chemistry and chemical biology.

He currently directs the UK Carbon-Loop Hub, a £14M initiative advancing waste-to-chemical biomanufacturing.

Dr Holly Reeve, CEO HydRegen

As CEO of HydRegen, Holly has a clear vision to see the company’s pioneering biotechnology platforms enable a more sustainable chemicals sector, fast-tracked by the significant “green discount” HydRegen has demonstrated.

At its core, HydRegen applies the benefits of bio-based manufacturing while requiring minimal changes to existing chemical plants and scale-up processes.

Holly has taken HydRegen’s technologies from initial laboratory results through to commercial products and processes. They were co-awarded £3m in academic translation funding, subsequently raising more than £3m in private investment alongside £1.5m in Innovate UK non-dilutive grant funding.

They are committed to creating an inclusive and balanced company culture, where individuals work towards both personal and company goals.

Dr Anna Zhenova, CEO Green Rose Chemistry

Anna is the CEO of Green Rose Chemistry, heling innovative companies develop and adopt high-performing biobased chemicals—safe, sustainable products you can get excited about. She works directly with clients to solve their green chemistry problems.

During her Ph.D. at the University of York, she noticed the market need for high-quality, on-demand green chemistry research for industrial applications, and founded Green Rose Chemistry to meet it.

Her speciality is solvents, polymers, and their interactions. Anna excels in translating academic expertise to real-world applications, and has a rather unscientific fondness for clear communication and polished graphics.
