The European Compost Network has published figures showing how biowaste collection and treatment could create thousands of jobs in the UK.
The figures are based on information received from ECN members. The medium value so called ‘Urban area’ – 1 full-time employment (FTE)/4,500 tonnes of biowaste – is based on the figures received from REA, UK and BGK, DE and the so called ‘rural area’ value (1 FTE/1,380 tonnes) is taken from the’ Irish Market Report on the composting and Anaerobic Digestion sectors’ published by InterTradeIreland in 2011.
The graphic only calculates direct jobs in biological treatment plants. So it is a conservative approach.
