A survey conducted by YouGov for Tesco has revealed that shoppers are confused about how to properly dispose of used tea bags.

43 per cent of people polled in the survey said they put used tea bags in with their general waste, 6 per cent put them in their recycling bins, 24 per cent put them in a food waste caddy, and 12 per cent put them in the home compost.

Only 30 per cent of adults surveyed knew that tea bags contain plastic. Tesco plans to solve this problem by making all of its tea bags compostable via food caddies by the summer, and by clearly labeling its tea packets with information on how to properly compost the tea bags.
