Scottish Government announces new plan for biotechnology

The Scottish Government has released its National Plan for Industrial Biotechnology, which sets out its vision to achieve a mature bioeconomy by 2025.

Published on 31 January 2019, the new national plan hopes to further embed circular economy thinking in Scotland’s manufacturing sector, aiming to increase the number of companies active in industrial biotechnology to more than 200 and increase industrial biotechnology-related turnover to £900 million.

The plan aims to boost the Scottish bioeconomy through stronger policy and engagement with the public and industry, while supporting innovation and skill acquisition to create new value chains and develop a skilled workforce to take the industry forward.
