The BBI JU (Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking) – a public-private partnership to support the EU’s emerging bioeconomy and part of the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme – announced that a new budget of €106 million has been allocated to fund biobased initiatives to turn renewable resources into useful biobased products.

The announcement comes in form of a second call for proposals, that aims at supporting research and innovation actions, including demonstration actions for making the best use of biomass and the development of new biorefineries. It also focuses on improving the strategic cooperation between the different economic sectors, i.e. linking actors involved in biomass supply (breeding and plant production, forestry, farming) to biorefineries and consumers of biobased products.
