BBIA has responded to the Scottish Government’s consultation on littering, which closed on 31 March, calling upon the Government to prohibit the sale of plastics claiming generic ‘biodegradability’ that fail to meet the criteria of certified compostability under the standard EN13432.
By allowing the sale of plastics that claim biodegradability – without measuring where and when – as a response to littering, Scotland would be allowing the sale of oxo-degradable plastics as well as potentially promoting littering of these. For more, visit the Scottish Government’s website.
