Programme, House of Lords, October 21st from 15:30 to 17:00

This meeting is generously hosted by Lord Jamie Lindsay at the House of Lords, in the Attlee Room, to share knowledge on the bioeconomy and to announce the new association representing industries in this sector, the BBIA.

The House of Lords report of March 2014 illustrated the huge potential for the UK economy of producing materials from biomass- an estimated £8-12 billon a year.

The Centre of Economics and Business Research (CEBR) will present a report commissioned by BBIA which illustrates what just one sector, bio-plastics, can achieve for UK growth if the regulatory framework allows. And speakers from industry and UK research will tell us about their experiences and how bio-materials are a great waste prevention tool too. Each speaker will talk for about five minutes:

The Earl of Lindsay, James Randolph Lindesay-Bethune

Andy Sweetman Chairman of the BBIA

John Persenda Chairman of Alfaplas Ltd (Hereford) and CEO of SPhere Group (France)

Chris Warkup CEO Knowledge Transfer Network

David Newman President of the International Solid Waste Association

CEBR Report on the economic potential of bioplastics in the UK

Rt. Hon. Sajid Javid Secretary of State, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Skills – invited
